Dr. Flynn is an internist and infectious disease specialist. He received his B.A. from UCLA and his M.D. from Ohio State University in 1973. After completing his residency in internal medicine at Loma Linda University (1976), Dr. Flynn received his subspecialty training in infectious diseases at UC Davis Hospital (1978). He joined the faculty of the UC Davis School of Medicine in 1978, serving as Professor of Medicine until his partial retirement in 2011.
During his tenure at UC Davis he conducted research into HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. His research centered on the prevention of HIV among injecting drug users. Dr. Flynn continues to work part-time at Cares Community Clinic and the Transitions Buprenorphine CLinic in Oak Park.
When Buprenorphine came onto the scene, he and his research team at the time recognized its potential to assist opioid-dependent people in reconstructing their lives. Priorities/Transitions was created as a result.
Dr. Flynn will retire from HIV work this year and will concentrate his efforts on improving services offered by Transitions.
